Top 10 Camps of 2009

How many of you reading this now remember when you were first looking for a camp? Heck, I remember the first day I joined this site back in February I was looking for one. The game wasn't even out yet but I just wanted to represent someone. I didn't know who was good, the game release was still months out. I just saw what people said on the boards and thought it looked cool. Now the criteria for joining camps is just crazy. Leadership, activity, comraderie, communication, board conduct, I could go on for days. What makes a great camp is that of varied opinion. Does it go by winning percentage? Titles? Fun? Activity? What exactly makes that best camp? In today's top 10 list, a veteran committee chose their top 10 camps of all time based on all of the above things and much much more.

10. Team Punishment- This was a camp that was around back in February when I joined with Try An Stop Me as the leader. They lasted well into the summer but eventually poor leadership led this camp to crumble. This was still a camp that had some solid fighters and would even let you know they were good.

9. American Top Team- Didn't last the longest after the game's release but was still an active camp led by ip0nder. One memory of mine from ATT was the creation of the Camp Lounge thread. How many of those do you see now? ATT started theirs back before the game was released and it was extremely popular. Was also the biggest camp out there before the game's release.

8. Roughhouse MMA- You could argue that this camp invented flaming in the UOC. Well maybe it wasn't that dramatic, but they did take flaming to the next level. This was a camp that even got banned by the UOC and came back under alternate accounts. Guys like MrAmazing, Why-Eric-Why, and TheMainEvent were faces of this camp that were great on both the boards and in the cage. Back in July a staff member, Nilhgual, made this comment, "Roughhouse are the UOC's local assholes. We love to hate them." Very popular, fun crowd for the league.

7. League of Assasins- LoA is a camp that has been around for a looooooong time. Illuminatus and AriesGodofWar are two faces of this camp that is one of the more prominent PS3 camps around. Lately some of the newer camps have picked off some of their members and it has left many within the camp and around the league wondering if LoA will continue. Sign me up as one of those that hopes it lasts for as long as possible.

6. Conquest- TapouT, Barge, and N3XTLVL founded this camp that has been through more ups and downs than a roller coaster. Lately N3XTLVL has been able to keep the camp alive with the help of MW Champ Fy8 Ny8 L3G3nd. One of their co-founders, TapouT, has recently announced his intentions to return and Conquest is now coming back strong. Seems to be a camp that is ready to climb back up the rankings into the 360 elite, which around where this camp has always been.

5. Chute Boxe- The longest running camp left in the UOC. This was a camp that was around when I joined up in February. They had some of the most original sigs and also one tons of fights with notable members like JP and BJJ10thDegreeBlackbelt. Their leader, ps2mdew, wasn't always that active but they were still able to last due to a strong core. The new wave of Chute Boxe is also rising behind the leadership of DrZenga420xx and eventhough none of these guys were around back in the original Chute days, it's still a great camp.

4. Jackson's MMA- Why was the camp so great? Well H2Beau is just a genius. Jokes aside, Jackson's MMA went from a decent camp to a great one. Originally No Limits Fight Club, JMMA has the largest thread in UOC history with their camp lounge thread and has had countless top contenders but only one champ (rdmize111). People like Widow-Maker187, PIRATE or NINJA, Aahola, and Simp0041 were the camp's foundation. This camp has gone through a HUGE letdown period since November with the xbox bans. They have recently announced a merger with GJJA and look to build back strong before 2010.

3. Team Affliction- Kassidy has brought this camp to an elite class in the UOC. With the help of top HW Contender Superman, Affliction is filled with a roster of top contenders in all weight classes. One thing has made TA set themselves apart from just about everyone else. They have been able to build a strong PS3 and 360 side. It is extremely hard to stay organized while running both sides and this is one camp that has been able to do it. They have had a couple set backs on the PS3 side recently but still show to be building forward to be a top camp on both consoles.

2. Team Gauntlet- This is a camp that is good, and their leader will let you know they're good. Bucket has built the most dominant team on the 360 side. They've had countless champions and always have top contenders in various weight classes. Former members such as champs Glimpse and Tigerback, and top contenders like Cru and JamesArk retired way too early. Now one member, Lynch96, is the top Pound-for-Pound fighter on the 360 side and one inactive member, Skarface66, held that title before him. TG is a camp that never rebuilds, they simply reload. Look for this camp to consistently be one of, if not the best in their division.

You can simply take a look at the current PS3 rankings and see how great this camp truly is. Not only do they win though, they also do it in a fun matter. Numerous champs have gone through this camp such as Grimsan, Dizzle, Timaobjj and DoubleAGallo. They were even part of probably the biggest camp battle ever with RMMA. This is a camp that has done it all in 2009 and is showing no signs of letting up as we head into the New Year.

Honorable Mention: Heavy Hands, Elite All-Stars, Legend MMA, Team Nogueira, 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, KOK, Camp Frost, Spartan MMA, Leu-Jitsu

Thanks for all of the compliments guys. I've found that it's really cool to look back at what the UOC was just a few months ago and even further back. I can't wait for this league to become that active once again and I'm 100% confident it will eventually.

hopefully i can put something together to be a part of this list next year...or at the very least have an opportunity in the future to be a part of one of these camps if things don't work out with monstar.

i started out only on 360 but i am repping on both consoles at the start this year and seeing as you were a LHW Champion and obviously top fighter. what do you say to Amazing/Super at UOC 31 in a HW Clash to start the new year?


i do plan to throw out a challenge for a 360 fight for UOC 31 as well tomorrow sometime during the day. ;)
