Carwin looks to stop the unstoppable!

Carwin looks to stop the unstoppable!

To many, Brock Lesnar (4-1-0) stepped into the octagon as the biggest Heavyweight fighter anyone had seen since the earliest of UFC events. Lesnar ran into troubles early on with a disappointing loss that saw Frank Mir tapping the 265 lbs machine via leg lock early in the bout. However, the downfall of Lesnar was short lived as he cruised to 3 impressive wins over UFC and MMA veterans Heath Hearing and Randy Couture before defending his new title to Frank Mir in UFC 100, one of the more memorable UFC’ s in recent memory. With a 4-1 record and Lesnar sitting high above the Heavyweight division, a crippling stomach illness left Lesnar in the hospital for several months. The champion wasnt down and out by any means and made a full recovery anxious to return to the Octagon to defend his title. Carwin made headlines throughout the MMA world as the 12-0, now crowned Interim Heavyweight Champion of the world returned to his regular 9-5 job the day after winning the much sought after title. Carwin who makes regular appearances on The Jason Ellis show, hosted by Faction on XM and Sirius Satellite radio has made many comments putting family and friends way before himself. Shane Carwin is America’s version of Canada’s Georges St Pierre, a man of class and a man who could destroy any human on the face of earth.

Shane Carwin (12-0-0), one of my personal favorite fighters and #1 Heavyweight choice made his UFC debut back in 2005 with an impressive first round knockout of Christian Wellisch. Carwin who at the time was flying under the MMA radar soon made his presence known as he knocked out, in the first round I might add, UFC vets Gabriel Gonzaga and Frank Mir. As a matter of fact, no man has made it to the second round with Carwin who holds an impressive 12-0 professional MMA record.

With UFC 116 less than a week away, there is no doubt that MMA fans are in for a treat. The past UFC events have been less than par to many, but with a Heavyweight fight drawing as much attention as a class Mike Tyson brawl, it doesn’t appear MMA fans will have anything to worry about. Along with the power house Lesnar vs Carwin, MMA fans will be pleased with a Middleweight bout of Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-1-0, 2 NC) and the always entertaining Chris Leben (20-6-0). Another to look forward to is the Welterweight bout with Chris Lytle (38-17-4) and Matt Brown (13-8-0). Be sure to tune in to Spike TV an hour before the event to catch a bout I think should have made the main card which is Brendan Schaub (6-1-0) and Brock Lesnars training partner Chris Tuchscherer (18-2-0, 2 NC).
